Beit Ajiqbash (Museum of Popular Traditions)
بيت أجقباش (متحف التقاليد الشعبية)

An 18th-century Aleppine house in al-Jdeideh with finely carved stone façades, home to the Museum of Popular Traditions.
In al-Jdeideh, one of old Aleppo's most beautiful quarters, stands Beit Ajiqbash, an 18th-century house and one of the finest examples of traditional Aleppine domestic architecture, named after the family who lived there.
Around a spacious courtyard, its façades, windows and doorways carry astonishingly fine stone carving in interlaced floral and geometric designs, with painted wooden ceilings inside.
Armenians, who specialised in trade with Persia and India, were the main inhabitants of Al-Jdeideh.
For decades it has housed the Museum of Popular Traditions, recreating old Aleppine life: costumes, kitchenware, furniture, jewellery, old weapons, crafts, and scenes of weddings and hospitality. It stands in Al-Jdeideh, among old churches and grand houses. Part of the Ancient City of Aleppo World Heritage property.
