Al-Muzayrib Castle
قلعة المزيريب

An Ottoman-era fort built to protect the Hajj caravan rest stop near Lake Al-Muzayrib in Daraa governorate.
Al-Muzayrib Castle was built in the Ottoman era near Lake Al-Muzayrib, serving an important defensive function of protecting the Syrian Hajj caravan rest stop located there on the route to the Hejaz, since these stops were sometimes vulnerable to attacks by Bedouin tribes, necessitating military fortifications to protect them.
The castle follows the traditional defensive design of Ottoman forts in the region, with thick stone walls and a relatively elevated position allowing observation of the surrounding lake area and the caravan routes around it, reflecting the strategic military importance Ottoman authorities placed on securing the Hajj route.
Despite the challenges that have affected many archaeological sites in Daraa governorate over recent decades, the castle's remains still stand as a witness to the historic defensive function of this strategic site.
Al-Muzayrib Castle, alongside its neighboring lake, forms a complete site combining natural beauty with the historical value tied to the old Syrian Hajj routes.
